Life in East Nashville

It’s no secret that Nashville is one of the fastest-growing, most vibrant cities in the U.S., and East Nashville is the most desirable neighborhood in Music City. Located just across the Cumberland River from downtown Nashville, this evolving area offers a mix of historic charm and new communities that make it an ideal place to live, work, and play.

East Nashville: Where History Meets the Present Day

East Nashville has gone through some dramatic changes throughout its history, and its eclectic character reflects that. Here, quirky bohemian design rubs elbows with sleek, upscale style, yet somehow, it all feels organic. Perhaps that natural evolution is due to how much upheaval this part of town has experienced over the years.

In the early 20th century, East Nashville – then known as East End – was home to the wealthiest Nashville families, who built beautiful Victorian mansions there. Sadly, the 1916 “Fire of the Century” destroyed 35 blocks of residential property in this part of town, and it took decades for the neighborhoods in this area to rebound from the tragedy.

More recently, longtime residents and business owners demonstrated their resilience, commitment, creativity, and can-do spirit by reinvesting in their community, bouncing back from natural disasters to create and nurture the hip, innovative heart of Nashville.

Convenience You’ll Love

With proximity to major thoroughfares such as I-24, I-65, Briley Parkway, Ellington Parkway, Gallatin Avenue, and Dickerson Pike, the east side of town features some of the city’s easiest accessibility – making it especially attractive to new residents in recent years. When you buy or build a home in East Nashville, you’ll find yourself within walking distance of delicious independent restaurants, trendy shops, high-quality public schools, peaceful green spaces, and live music from top local bands.

Though it feels like a quiet, low-key enclave, East Nashville sits right on downtown’s doorstep, so you’re only a stone’s throw away from the city’s central business district and cultural and entertainment options like the Ryman Auditorium, Bridgestone Arena, and the National Museum of African American Music.

Friendly, Creative, and Diverse

Despite being in the middle of a major metropolitan area, East Nashville maintains a welcoming, small-town vibe. The ever-growing roster of small, locally owned businesses – like bakeries, bookstores, and art galleries – is a breath of fresh air in a marketplace crowded with cookie-cutter chain stores and restaurants. This part of town is a great place to shop for all things vintage, from clothes to vinyl records. And the iconic Tomato Art Fest, held every August, has become a beloved civic tradition symbolic of the community’s ingenuity and imagination.

East Nashville includes an exciting mix of up-and-coming and long-established neighborhoods and communities, including:
