7 Things You Should Know Before Moving to Nashville

Nashville is one of the most rapidly growing cities in the country, and for good reason. Experts interviewed by News 4 Nashville estimate that more than 80 people are now moving to Tennessee’s capital each day. While economists may say that this is due to our booming job market, we like to think that Nashville’s combination of big-city amenities and small-town charm is behind this surge.

If you’re thinking about moving to Music City, we’re excited to have you! Here are a few insider tips from the Legacy South team.

1. Nashville is Home to Fantastic Food

In recent years, Nashville has become a leading foodie destination. Originally known for Southern cooking, hot chicken, and meat-and-threes like Arnold’s, the capital of Tennessee has become a culinary giant in recent years. The city’s growth has even attracted the attention of world-renowned chefs like Maneet Chauhan, Jonathan Waxman, and Sean Brock. You can find their restaurants (Chauhan Ale and Masala House, Adele’s, and Husk) scattered around town. If you’re in search of a bite to eat, something delicious is just around the corner.

Advice from a Local:Nashville is also home to the nation’s largest Kurdish population, so if you happen to be on Nolensville Pike, we recommend stopping by Edessa Restaurant, House of Kabob, or Sulav International Market for some authentic fare.

2. Keep Your Weather App Open

Nashville weather patterns are nothing short of random! As we write this article, it’s sunny and 43º – tomorrow, it’s supposed to be cloudy with a high of 61º. Residents enjoy warm summers and cold winters, with a little bit of everything in between. Basically, our city gets all four seasons… but you may experience many of them in the same week.

3. Bring Your Own Car

Tennessee is made up of a collection of winding rural roads and sprawling cities. Because of this, public transit isn’t often used by locals. If you’re moving from a place like Chicago or New York City, it’s probably best to budget for the purchase of a car.

Advice from a Local:It’s easy to avoid Nashville traffic by taking side roads or leaving before rush hour.

4. The Nashville Sports Scene is Thriving

As more people moved to Nashville, they brought serious demand for sports franchises. Music City is now home to a host of teams, and the local fan bases are very dedicated. Nashville’s professional sports teams include:

  • The Tennessee Titans (NFL)
  • The Nashville Predators (NHL)
  • Nashville Soccer Club (MLS)
  • The Nashville Sounds (MiLB)

5. There’s More Than Just Broadway

This is an especially important fact for new residents to know! Broadway is a top tourist destination – in 2019, CNN named Nashville the bachelorette capital of the world, in part because of this famous thoroughfare. However, there’s more to nightlife here than party buses and honky-tonks. No matter where you are in town, you’ll find exciting bars, restaurants, and other gathering places.

Advice from a Local:Pay special attention to Midtown, East Nashville, and Printers Alley when you’re on the lookout for something to do!

6. You Can Find a Home in Your Dream Nashville Neighborhood

As the city expands, new areas become popular. The Gulch is a great example: originally a deserted railroad yard, investment in the early 2000s has transformed this once-empty plot into one of Nashville’s most desirable, high-end neighborhoods. Each part of town has a similar story and offers a unique spin on local culture. Since every corner of the city is so different, it’s easy to find a beautiful home in the neighborhood that fits you best.

For Families:Donelson, The Nations, Hermitage, Bellevue

For Artists:East Nashville, Midtown, West Nashville, Wedgewood-Houston

For Foodies:Southeast Nashville, Hillsboro-Belmont, 12 South

For Professionals:Germantown, Metro Center, Green Hills, The Gulch

For Nature Lovers:Bells Bend, Neely’s Bend, Old Hickory

7. You’ll Love It Here

No matter where you’re moving from, the most important thing to know about Nashville is that you’ll love it. With beautiful scenery, endless activities, and kind people, Music City may just be the perfect place to settle down.
